Mrs Jo Thompson Senior Research Nurse Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine Usher Institute College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine Contact details Work: +44 (0)131 242 6396 Email: v1jtho22@staffmail.ed.ac.uk Background I am a Critical Care Research Co-ordinator at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. I qualified from Edinburgh Napier University in 2005 (BSc Adult Nursing) and after some general nursing experience I started working clinically in Critical Care in 2008. Since then I have worked in both High Dependency and Intensive Care. During my time in Intensive Care I completed the course on the Foundations of Critical Care, and the Adult Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course. I continue to work in the intensive care environment as a clinical nurse, alongside the research team which I joined in January 2014 as a Research Co-ordinator. I am passionate about seeing a high standard of care continually provided to patients and relatives alike, and seeing excellence delivered across the health care board. I am currently working on a quality improvement project called SCARF. The project works with ICU survivors who would have a high risk of readmission back into hospital. Our aim is to help improve communication between hospital and community services for these patients and reduce potential readmission rates. This article was published on 2024-09-24
