Gutscapes: A Meditation on Eating and Being with Microbes

We humans have never been home alone: our gut is a multispecies fermentation hub. In this activity, you will be immersed in a meditative soundscape, inviting you to experience digestion as a joint activity with your resident microbes. You will be told stories about the peculiar ways through which microbial communities make home inside of us (a hint: the gelatinous gut wall has a big role to play in this!). Over an edible encounter with delicious and intriguing canapes, you are then invited to share your thoughts and experiences with fellow participants.

This event is a creative collaboration between artist duo Baum and Leahy and interdisciplinary researcher Joana Formosinho at the Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society, University of Edinburgh.
