Between Biomedicine, Self and Society (Centre-only)

Since 2018, CBSS at the University of Edinburgh has progressed to become an established centre of research, education and engagement. We know CBSS will continue to flourish in the years ahead, and we are gathering to reflect upon the work of the Centre – it’s past, present and future.

There will also be a community-focused Love Hub event taking place to highlight the importance of public engagement at the Centre.

If you require further information, please email cbss@ed.ac.uk

The programme will be as follows:

Humanities and Social Science in dialogue with Biomedicine and Public Health

Wednesday 26 February 2025
The Usher Building, BioQuarter, The University of Edinburgh

The opening event will celebrate some of the achievements of CBSS. Join us to hear about the impact of the interdisciplinary work which CBSS has established and advanced. We will hear from a range of our researchers and collaborators from across our thematic areas, alongside senior colleagues within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Over lunchtime there will be the opportunity to join a zine-making workshop, exploring the use of arts-based methods in health and social research. An informal reception will end the afternoon.

Between Collaboration and Critique

Thursday 27 February 2025
The Edinburgh Futures Institute, The University of Edinburgh

This day-long series of activities will offer opportunities to further explore our research areas and engagement approaches. Attendees will be able to participate in salon sessions, a zine workshop and hear highlights from some of our Centre PhD and staff members, culminating in an informal reception.

The Love Hub Edinburgh

Thursday 27 February (evening) and Friday 28 February
The Pleasance Cabaret Bar and the Lighthouse bookshop

CBSS are working in partnership with one of our community partners The Love Tank to run a series of events that engage with key issues and ideas in HIV, sexual and reproductive justice, disability justice and social justice.  These events relate not only to our ongoing research programme, but feature collaborations with key community partners.  This series of collaborative events is based on The Love Tank’s annual collaboration with Fringe! Queer Arts & Film Fest in London.

Sign up on The Love Tank events page and find out further information about accessibility and hybrid options (where possible).
