HIV report launched with Spanish Ministry of Health

A new report on the state of sexual health and HIV in Spain, published by the University of Edinburgh, was presented at a recent event by Spain’s Secretary of State for Health, Mr Javier Padilla Bernáldez, and UNAIDS Executive Director, Dr Winnie Byanyima.

The report is the result of a interdisciplinary collaboration led by Usher Institute’s Chancellor’s Fellow Jaime Garcia-Iglesias. The team brings social and humanities scholars, as well as  public health and infectious disease clinicians to deliver a comprehensive analysis of sexual health trends and needs in Spain. The team’s research highlights a concerning rise in sexually transmitted infections, underscoring the need for more inclusive, accessible health services to meet the evolving demands of Spain’s population.

This report, with a preface from the Secretary of State, sets the foundation for updated, national HIV prevention strategies, aiming to foster equitable access and resilience in Spain’s health services.
