Lunch will be provided. Speakers Speaker: Prof. Sarah Wild Title: Socio-economic factors and the epidemiology of diabetes Bio: Sarah did her medical training in London and Cambridge. Her postgraduate experience included hospital medicine, general practice and public health medicine, a cardiovascular epidemiology fellowship at Stanford University and a PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Sarah has worked at the University of Edinburgh since 2002 and is now professor of epidemiology and an honorary consultant in public health at Lothian NHS Board. Her main interests are the epidemiology and prevention of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases and the use of routine data for research. Speaker: Regina Prigge Title: Diabetes, depression, their comorbidity and risk of adverse health outcomes Bio: Regina joined the University of Edinburgh as Master of Public Health student in September 2015. After completing the Master’s degree, she started a PhD on the relationship between depression and cardiovascular diseases under the supervision of Dr Caroline Jackson and Prof Sarah Wild which she plans to complete by the end of this year. Speaker: Kelly Fleetwood Title: The impact of major mental illness on quality of care in people with type 2 diabetes in Scotland: an analysis of routinely collected health data Bio: Kelly is a medical statistician working with Dr Caroline Jackson and Prof Sarah Wild. Her current work uses routine data to evaluate how major mental illness affects physical disease outcomes and quality of care amongst people with diabetes, stroke or myocardial infarction. Prior to joining the Usher Institute in 2017, Kelly worked in industry in both Scotland and Australia. During this time she provided statistical support to a broad range of projects in the life sciences, from gene expression studies to evaluations of the cost-effectiveness of new drugs.
