The Scottish Cancer Registry and Intelligence Service is assisting Public Health Scotland in achieving its three-year strategic plan Image In September 2020, Public Health Scotland (PHS) published its three-year strategic plan to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of people in Scotland. Sitting within PHS, the Scottish Cancer Registry and Intelligence Service (SCRIS) is assisting in achieving this plan. Key themes in the plan overlap with the aims of SCRIS: Working nationally and locally The Scottish Cancer Registry and Intelligence Service dashboard draws from many cancer datasets across Scotland: from health board level up to national statistics. SCRIS works for the benefit of all people in Scotland affected by cancer. Being outcomes focused Improving patient outcomes is at the heart of why SCRIS was developed. The dashboard supports cancer services and enables these improvements. Being data and intelligence-driven The SCRIS service and its dashboard have been developed and enhanced to offer health professionals better access to the wealth of cancer data across Scotland. This high-quality cancer-related information supports review and planning for better cancer services and care for patients. Being a trusted source of information The SCRIS dashboard provides a secure single point of entry for an increasing number of national cancer datasets in Scotland. SCRIS hold a position of trust in making this information and intelligence available to healthcare professionals in a secure way. With these mutual goals SCRIS will contribute towards PHS’s vision of a Scotland where everybody thrives. The productive partnership between IHDP and PHS (and previously NSS) in developing SCRIS, has focused on increasing access to data at local and regional levels, to improve cancer outcomes nationally. The publication of the PHS three-year strategic plan offers an opportunity for further collaboration to continue developing SCRIS and promoting its use across NHS Scotland. Professor Aileen Keel CBEDirector of the Innovative Healthcare Delivery Programme (IHDP), partner on the SCRIS The SCRIS is a major programme within Public Health Scotland that provides intelligence to inform all parts of cancer control – from prevention, to early detection and treatment, to the experience of those living with cancer. Professor David MorrisonDirector of the Scottish Cancer Registry The cancer programme is an important component of PHS’s Strategic Plan which will help with prevention of as many people as possible from getting cancer; improve early detection and diagnosis; support the best possible treatment and care, and improve outcomes for people with cancer.
