Areas of Impact

Our strengths lie in connecting across sectors and clinical specialities to deliver on our three main areas of impact:

  • Transforming the use of data in healthcare

  • Supporting innovation in digital health

  • Involving patients in digital health

Strategic collaborations: strengthening partnerships

Over the past year, IHDP has forged strategic collaborations and strengthened partnerships to deliver impact in each of the areas outlined above. In particular, working closely with PHS to engage with clinical teams and make better use of clinical and audit data, and supporting PHS partners in their communications and action planning, adding a broader and more strategic dimension to discussions.

Our collaboration with Research Data Scotland (RDS) led to hosting discussions with partners from industry to highlight current challenges and solutions for accessing data for research and innovation. These discussions paved the way for our own work in understanding the drivers for innovation in digital health and the implementation of approaches to drive improvements in healthcare.

Growing our skills as a team has been another focus and we’ve brushed up on our facilitation skills and understanding of change through team development workshops, fostering a creative environment and enhancing collaboration among our dedicated team members. New approaches within the team have also been developing, adopting a user design approach to developing our website (watch this space!).

Our close connections with policy teams in Scottish Government have impacted on strategy development and on strengthening links between policy and practice through data insights. A significant milestone was playing an integral part in the Scottish Cancer Strategy, published in June. Our collaborative journey with PHS aimed to transform access to cancer data in Scotland, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Central to our ethos is patient collaboration. We take pride in establishing our Patient Reference Group and are working towards creating other reference groups (such as our Industry Reference Group) to maintain active links with all our stakeholders.

All our collaborations collectively contribute to IHDP's holistic approach to healthcare innovation, fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment that drives positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

Closing thoughts and looking ahead

Building on our work in 2023, we start 2024 with stronger partnerships across the health, digital and data sectors and with a better understanding of the challenges faced in driving forward innovation. We have also seen the transformative impact of healthcare data in practice and the benefits of bringing groups together to share learning and design solutions together. We are looking forward to collaborating with you and other partners throughout next year, sharing highlights and milestones as we progress.
