BR-UK Co-Investigator and Co-Lead of Theme 1 'Environment and Sustainability appointed to Science and Technology Advisory Council. Professor Nick Pidgeon, BR-UK Co-Investigator and Co-Lead of Theme 1 'Environment and Sustainability’ has been appointed the new Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC) at the UK Department of Energy Security and Net Zero. The STAC will advise the Department, including Ministers and Senior Officials, on scientific, technical, and analytical evidence relating to the Prime Minister’s mission to make the UK a clean energy superpower and the Department’s aims to secure our long-term energy supply, bring down bills, and reach Net Zero. The STAC will support the Chief Scientific Adviser to provide independent advice a to the Department using the best available evidence and expertise, including from behavioural science.Reacting to the announcement, Nick said: I'm delighted to be appointed to this influential UK Science Advisory Council. UK Government currently faces many difficult behavioural science questions in relation to both climate change and its clean energy mission. The research evidence and expertise currently being built within BR-UK will be invaluable for advising on how climate policy should take full account of the role played by people, households and communities in forging a more secure and sustainable future.
