Behavioural Research UK (BR-UK) is a research consortium funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) via the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The consortium serves as a leadership hub that is part of a wider ESRC programme to build national capability for behavioural research. BR-UK has been awarded funding over five years from November 2023 to conduct interdisciplinary behavioural research to contribute to addressing societal challenges.

Co-Directors Professor Linda Bauld, The University of Edinburgh and Professor Susan Michie, University College London lead BR-UK in partnership with Deputy Director Dr Sharon Cox and the wider Leadership team.

We are delighted to welcome you to this landmark conference, jointly co-hosted by BR-UK and the Centre for National Training and Research Excellence in Understanding Behaviour (Centre-UB). 

The Building Capability in Behavioural Research 2026 Conference will convene an interdisciplinary community of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers for a dynamic programme of discussion, exchange, and collaboration to build new networks and strengthen existing ones. The conference will include interactive sessions, keynote talks from Professor Ralph Hertwig, Director of the Center for Adaptive Rationality, Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Professor Paul Taylor, UK Government's Chief Scientific Adviser for policing and chair of the Government's Social and Behavioural Science for Emergencies, and a lively debate.
