Three new cross-college posts have been agreed which will help cement the legacy of the ACRC. The fellowships have been intended to further the ACRC’s strategic goals, with each developing an innovative new programme around healthy ageing. They are designed to provide talented early career researchers with the support required to develop into leading research-active academics at the University of Edinburgh.Dr Jean Stafford, whose research career began with an undergraduate degree at the University of Edinburgh, returns to Scotland from UCL. Her fellowship will investigate the interface between physical and mental health, and the role of the social environment in healthy ageing.The first of the three to start, in February, Dr Stafford will pursue interdisciplinary research across all three colleges of the University, while being based within the Usher Institute.Professor Bruce Guthrie, Director of the ACRC said "We are delighted to announce these fellowships which will contribute massively to the ACRC’s body of research."We have already secured one outstanding leader of interdisciplinary research, and we look forward to adding two more later in the year."Professor Julie Jacko, Interim Director of the Usher Institute, added: “The Usher Institute’s investment in this post underscores the strategic importance of ACRC’s work in promoting the University’s strategic ambitions in future health and care.”A second fellow to be based in the Usher Institute has been appointed to start in spring, with a third ACRC fellowship, based in the School of Informatics, expected to be recruited this Spring.
