Building links with Researchers from Sweden

For three days in mid-march, the ACRC hosted several researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.

Our visitors came from the Institute of Environmental Medicine and included Karin Modig, Associate Professor, whose work focuses on using epidemiology to understand the driving forces and consequences of longevity and old age health. We were also joined by members of the Hampus group, a team of interdisciplinary researchers who work to understand and improve quality of care for people with multiple long-term conditions.

The three days were packed with discussions, featuring presentations led by members of both parties on topics including machine learning, multimorbidity, delirium and overdiagnosis. Presentations and discussions were delivered by qualitative and quantitative researchers, patient representatives, PhD students, and clinicians.

Karin Modig presented her work to the whole ACRC, including new understanding about survival after hip fracture and risk of stroke, and it was very well received.

Dr Clare MacRae, MRC Clinical Research Training Fellow and organiser of the research visit said:

“This has been an exciting and inspiring week of learning and having made these connections, we look forward to many future collaborations”

Over the next couple of weeks, the ACRC is also hosting visitors from Japan and Canada. Check back to find out more in a few weeks.
