At the Usher Institute’s Annual Recognition Awards, both Lucy McCloughan and Kate Morris stepped away with certificates.

Lucy McCloughan was awarded Outstanding leadership:

This Award will recognise a member of staff or student who has created an especially positive and stimulating environment for colleagues to work in and/or by nurturing and motivating has enabled staff or teams to deliver highly effective work

Her nomination highlighted several key reasons; praising Lucy’s professionalism, her generosity of time and expertise and ability to make everyone feel welcome, heard and useful.

And Kate Morris was awarded Outstanding contribution to the student experience:

This award seeks to recognise staff or student who puts student experience at the forefront of their way of working. A successful candidate will appreciate and understand education and learning from the student perspective and seek to respond to and support the needs of students first and foremost.

For Kate, her commitment to finding solutions, patience and approachability were some of the reasons behind her nomination, with one of the students referring to her as ‘the glue that holds the Academy together’.

We in the ACRC know that both Lucy and Kate were worthy winners, having seen first-hand their positive interactions with staff and students.

Lucy said “I had no idea it was coming, and did not expect to hear my name called out. Absolutely delighted to receive the award, and I am so grateful to be recognised in this way!”

Kate added “I’m really proud to receive this award. It’s wonderful to think that people acknowledge and value your efforts, and I will continue to put the students at the forefront of everything I do”

Professor David Argyle, Head of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Anne-Marie Coriat, CMVM College Registrar, presented the awards at the Usher’s End of Year Celebration on 14th December 2023.
