Professor Tim Walsh gives an introduction to the department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine.

Anaesthesia

The principal research interests of the department are respiratory studies in anaesthesia, studies of postoperative analgesia, cognitive and neurological decline associated with cardiac surgery, clinical studies of new anaesthetic agents and associated drugs epidemiology of anaesthesia. From time to time research fellowships become available within the department and these are usually advertised in the medical journals. As a rule these posts are limited to doctors who are eligible to be registered with the General Medical Council.

Critical Care Medicine

Critical Care Medicine is a vibrant multidisciplinary research group within the University of Edinburgh which takes the broadest possible approach to improving patient outcomes. Our research spans a wide range of clinical specialties, disciplines, departments and research institutes and benefits from being embedded in the world class biomedical research environment provided by the University of Edinburgh.

Postgraduate online study

The programme is delivered fully online using methods supported by the University’s award-winning online learning environments. Online learning is a way of studying for an internationally recognised University of Edinburgh postgraduate qualification without needing to visit the campus.
