Background

Graduated in Nursing Studies from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2000, having previously completed a BSc(Hons) in Biology at the University of Paisley. My clinical background is Acute Medical and Critical Care Nursing.

Research

I started in research in 2005 as a research nurse in the Clinical Research Facility - Edinburgh, becoming Critical Care Research Nurse in the facility and working as part of the ECCRG in 2006. I have been involved in a variety of studies in areas including sepsis and peri-operative optimisation of patients.

In Nov 2012 I joined the Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit (ECTU) as Study Manager and Follow-Up Co-ordinator, still working with the ECCRG. My trial management responsibilities include the DESIST Study (ICU Sedation), ExPRES Sepsis and INFECT (both sepsis studies). I also follow up patients for the studies such as OPTIMISE, RECOVER and ABLE.

Professional interests

I also have a particular interest in the legal and ethical aspects of healthcare in general and more specifically in clinical research, having completed the Law and Ethics in Healthcare course, a blended programme of modules by NHS Lothian/Napier University(Nursing Dept)/Edinburgh University(Medical Law Dept).
