Acute Care Edinburgh (ACE) is a new cross cutting initiative that will be hosted in the Usher Institute, within the Centre for Population Health Sciences. Image ACE aims to bring together clinicians and researchers across multiple specialties and disciplines to generate novel clinical, health services, and translational research in relation to any acute illness. ACE will excel in its translational and clinical research with patients, building on, in particular the strong track record that already exists in this acute space around clinical trials. ACE seeks to further advance the quality and volume of clinical research by fostering collaborations between groups such as emergency medicine, critical care, cardiology and stroke. Another key focus will be on data driven research. ACE aims to maximise the value for patient benefit from the availability of world class linked data sets, as well as bridging the translational gap by enabling ACE members to take great ideas, innovations and technologies into clinical trials. ACE will also focus on education and training in the acute care space. As an interface between the NHS and the university, it will provide an ideal platform to be able to provide excellent learning opportunities for NHS research clinicians and university researchers.
