Lauren Callender

Background

Lauren started her career working within the Gastroenterology Directorate in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh gaining an understanding of this speciality, associated medical conditions and their treatments. Following this, Lauren then joined the intensive care unit at the Western General Hospital as a staff nurse in December 2019, gaining knowledge and experience of caring for those critically unwell due to cancer, cardiac, neurological, respiratory, haematological, urological and colorectal conditions- progressing to a deputy charge nurse post in February 2023. Having enjoyed working within these clinical areas, Lauren joined the Edinburgh Critical Care Research Group in January 2024 to have to opportunity to work within this speciality as a research nurse to contribute to the development of treatments in critical care with the aim to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
