Baillie Lab, Roslin Institute, funded PhD project opportunities

Jobs and PhD studentships become available from time to time in the Baillie Lab at the Roslin Institute.

Developing functional genomics methods to detect clinically-relevant disease endotypes

Supervisors: Dr JK Baillie and Prof C Haley (Institute for Genetics and Molecular Medicine)

Our project has been selected for a funded PhD position on the prestigious MRC Precision Medicine Doctoral training programme. This offers a 4-year funded PhD with individually-tailored taught components in data science, statistics, and biology. Click here for more details and to apply.

The student appointed to this project will develop new data analysis tools and employ genetic and functional genomic data to discover distinct biological pathways underlying complex diseases. We have already demonstrated in preliminary studies that our new approach to this problem is effective. Since these analyses have the ability to quantify the genetic burden of susceptibility in any pathway that we detect, the results of this project may be of immediate clinical relevance.

This project will enable the student to innovate in data analysis methodologies and make new discoveries in the field of precision medicine. The student will learn to handle large-scale high-dimensionality data, perform statistical re-analyses of transcriptomics and genome-wide association study (GWAS) data, and generate and test precision medicine hypotheses.
