Lucy Macdonald

Background

Lucy gained a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing (Adult) from Buckinghamshire University in 2000.  Initially working in cardiothoracic nursing then intensive care nursing she completed a post graduate course in critical care at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.  She started working in clinical research in 2007 for the University of Edinburgh then worked at the Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility, a MHRA Phase 1 Accredited Facility for seven years. Here she was involved in the co-ordination of commercial clinical trials, academic research and phase I research.  In 2016 she joined the HIGHSTEACS research team who are involved in cardiac research, particularly related to troponin. Here she was involved in co-ordinating a number of cardiac studies.  One of these studies called Cardiac Cycle was recently published in Circulation and Lucy was one of the main authors.  While working within the team she completed an MSc in Physical Activity and Health at the University of Edinburgh.  Her main areas of interest are physical activity, health promotion and public health. 

Lucy joined the Edinburgh Critical Care Research Group in August 2020 and is looking forward to working on the variety of critical care, peri-operative and anaesthesia trials. She recently renewed her clinical skills while volunteering to work back in intensive care at the Western General in the covid 19 pandemic.  She will be involved in a number of new studies relating to understanding and treatment of the virus in critical care patients.
