Image Funded PhD with Integrated Study studentships for the Precision Medicine Doctoral Training programme within the University of Edinburgh are supported by the Medical Research Council (MRC) Doctoral Training Programme and the University of Edinburgh (either the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) or College of Science and Engineering (CSE)). Funding for Glasgow-lead students is managed by the University of Glasgow. Glasgow students should contact PrecisionMedicine-dtp@glasgow.ac.uk for any funding queries. All funded students should ensure they acknowledge both the Medical Research Council and the University of Edinburgh/University of Glasgow on posters, presentations and any academic papers you produce during your PhD study. Studentship Details for Successful Awardees Tuition Fees Payment of tuition fees at the prevailing home student rate for PhD study at the University of Edinburgh will be paid directly to the University each year of the programme (3.5 or 4 years based). The difference between home and international fees will be waived for international students. If you do not submit your thesis within your funding period or you have corrections following your viva you will be required to pay an annual matriculation fee. This will not be covered by the Precision Medicine Programme. Matriculation fee rates can be be found here. Stipend Payments Stipend payments will be made to Edinburgh based students monthly on the 28th of each month, commencing on completion of formal registration. Glasgow students will receive their payments on the last banking day of each month. Stipend rates are based on the RCUK minimum doctoral rate for each of the 3.5 years or 4 years of the PhD. Research Training Support Grant An annual grant will be allocated to the research group in which each student is based for additional programme costs of £5,000. Students should discuss expected spend with their Supervisor(s). Further information available here. Travel An allowance of up to £300 per annum for travel to conferences is allocated to each student. Students may carry forward the balance of travel money remaining from one year to another. Students are responsible for booking their own travel and then submitting an expense claim for the agreed amounts. These expenses claims should be submitted to their local grant (RTSG), held within their research institute. Further information available here. Spend Timeframes Training Grant funds cannot be used to meet the costs of an activity that will fall outside of an individual student’s funded period. It cannot be used to support time spent by a student writing up their thesis once their funding end date has passed or when travel falls beyond the training grant period. If you are a student on programme and have any questions about funding, additional programme costs or travel budgets please feel free to contact the Precision Medicine DTP PG Administrative Officers using the Contact Us button above.
