Information about MRC funded Transition Fellowships Image The MRC are keen to support the transition of highflying individuals from PhD to independent careers. The MRC funding associated with the Precision Medicine DTP has allowed us to create a seed fund from which to fund a small number of Transition Fellowships. We are particularly keen to encourage applications from individuals who can use the money to significantly broaden their research experience by working in a commercial company or with a new research group. However, please note, you must maintain a connection with the University of Edinburgh, as that is where the role will officially be based.Eligibility criteria and application guidanceAll MRC funded students at the University of Edinburgh are eligible to apply for a Transition Fellowship. Each Fellowship will last for a maximum of 1 year (applications of shorter duration are also encouraged). Applicants must have submitted their thesis before they start the Fellowship: personal salary costs and research costs up to £20,000 will be covered. Before making an application, you must discuss the arrangements with the local HR team where the Fellowship will be based. They will be able to provide you with an estimate of actual salary costs (including on-costs) at the standard postdoctoral rate. The application must be signed by the Head of Centre/Institute where the role will be based. It is important to show that the role is supported locally, so applicants are also encouraged to include a letter of support from the Head of Centre/Institute. All HR arrangements (job description, grading etc.) must be made in the Centre/Institute in which you will be based. There will be an annual call for applications to fund a Transition Fellowship. The next transition fellowship call deadline is Friday 10th January 2025. All applications should be submitted to precision.medicine@ed.ac.uk using the application form below. We can cannot accept ad hoc applications at this time. Document MRC Transition Fellowship Application Form (99.59 KB / DOCX) This article was published on 2024-09-24
