Sophie graduated from the University of Manchester in September 2011.  She spent time nursing in London and Australia before coming into research, originally starting off as a Research Nurse at York. Although enjoying this work, she wanted to refresh clinical skills and spent some time working as a Staff Nurse in Critical Care in Hull, before moving back to clinical research. Sophie worked in the Cardiology Research department at Barts in London, gaining experience in a range of studies, as well as presenting work at national conferences.

On relocation to Edinburgh in Jan 2020, she started at the Clinical Research Facility, however world events led to helping with the Covid 19 effort in ICU. This unexpected shift in work reignited interest in Critical Care and she joined the Critical Care Research team as a Senior Research Nurse in November 2020. Sophie now works as Lead Research Nurse within the team and is also the Clinical Co-Ordinator for the NIHR funded study, RESULT Hip.

Sophie’s interests include: public health / inequalities of health, education and embedding research into clinical care.
