In January 2020 an external panel of NHS R&D Directors and clinical academics with expertise in trials undertook a review of the clinical trials pathway within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. The summary and recommendations from this review can be viewed in the document below:

Clinical Trials Strategy

Following the external review, a short-life working group was formed to consider the recommendations of the review. The resulting Clinical trials strategy, underpinned by the University of Edinburgh’s Research Strategies, aims to incorporate the external review findings and prioritise the purpose and core expertise of the Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit (ECTU) in our pursuit to develop, design and deliver world-class clinical trials. ECTU Portfolio Prioritisation Strategy

Alignment of ECTU’s priorities with the Clinical Trials Strategy is a key step in its implementation.  Between August and October 2022, ECTU developed an approach to prioritising work in its current and future portfolio to align with the Clinical Trials Strategy and to support ECTU’s business objectives.  ECTU undertook a series of consultations to ensure that the Prioritisation Strategy is informed by the views of key stakeholders.  The final draft of the ECTU Portfolio Prioritisation Strategy was approved by the Clinical Trials Oversight Group (CTOG) in December 2022.  In January 2023, ECTU began working with key stakeholders to implement a collective process for prioritisation of clinical trials.  You can view the ECTU Portfolio Prioritisation Strategy in the document below:
