What is Cardiotoxicity

Cardiotoxicity is when the heart muscle is injured.

Chemotherapy drugs known as Anthracyclines can be cardiotoxic. This means that in some people they can injure the heart muscle. If there is cardiotoxic injury, the heart may not be able to pump blood as well.

Examples of Anthracyclines are Doxorubicin (Adriamycin); Epirubicin (Pharmorubicin ®); Daunorubicin (Daunomycin)

The majority of breast cancer and lymphoma patients who receive Anthracyclines do not develop cardiotoxicity.
