Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research

Since its launch in 2014, the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research has been at the forefront of research making a real difference to the lives of those affected by asthma.

Our vision, aligned with that of Asthma + Lung UK, is a world where asthma attacks do not happen.

A collaborative venture between universities from across the UK, Asthma + Lung UK, people affected by asthma, healthcare professionals, NHS partners and other organisations, the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research brings together leading UK clinical and non-clinical researchers from a variety of specialities including behavioural sciences, respiratory physiology, clinical trials, health economics and implementation research.

This UK-wide collaboration is led by Directors Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh of the University of Edinburgh, and Professor Chris Griffiths of Queen Mary University of London.

Our research focuses on developing, testing and implementing interventions which have the potential to achieve substantial, sustained reductions in asthma morbidity and mortality.

We have created a supportive ecosystem to facilitate and advance the world-leading applied asthma research we undertake. This ensures all research is

  • of the highest possible quality
  • conducted efficiently
  • with people affected by asthma at the core of all we do.

Creating capacity for the future, our Postgraduate training aims to enrol the most exceptional candidates and nurture them to become the next generation of leaders in world-class applied asthma research.
