Our network of children and young people interested in asthma research Join our SPEAK Asthma network! Are you school-aged? Do you care for a school-aged person? Do you have asthma, or care for someone with asthma? Do you want to help make asthma research better? Image SPEAK Asthma is our network of children and young people working together to improve asthma research. Rather than being a study participant, by being part of SPEAK Asthma our volunteers contribute to lots of studies where researchers need guidance from someone who has been affected by asthma. This could mean living with asthma or having a friend or family member who lives with asthma. What do I need to do? Getting involved means working with researchers from across the UK to help create research that will help improve the lives of other children and young people living with asthma. You could: Complete surveys Be part of a discussion group about asthma research Give us your opinions and feedback about research studies Read research summaries to check that they are understandable for other children or young people with asthma You can do as little or as much as you want. Everything is optional! If you want, you can leave the group at any time. Register for SPEAKAsthma Why should I get involved? There are a lot of reasons to get involved. You can: Learn more about research Learn more about asthma Meet researchers from across the UK Have a say in future asthma research Gain experience which could contribute to volunteering or university applications Get thank you vouchers and certificate for helping us out! How do we make a difference? Researchers want to hear what children and young people think of their ideas! They want to hear your thoughts on how to better solve problems that affect children and young people who are living with asthma. The group’s main job is to offer advice and ideas. We use email and online Zoom meetings to work together with researchers. Who are we? Our group is led by a group of researchers, nurses and other people with asthma. Tracy and Emma are researchers that help get people involved in research. Ann is an asthma nurse specialist at the Children's Hospital in Edinburgh. Laura is our Research and Operations Assistant.
