Edward Moroshko

I am a Research Associate in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, working on the EPIC project. My background is in machine learning and artificial intelligence. I hold a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the Technion in Israel, and I have worked in industry at companies including Qualcomm and Nethermind, as well as an internship at IBM Research. Before joining EPIC, I worked with Professor Sotos Tsaftaris on artificial intelligence for resilient energy systems and on causal machine learning.

In EPIC, I develop new causal AI methods for fair and personalised diagnosis. My work focuses on identifying and correcting biases in healthcare data so that the diagnostic tool is equitable across families. Working closely with the clinicians, families and engineers in our team, I build models that combine each baby's characteristics with measures from their EEG so that the diagnosis is both accurate and fair. 

I am motivated by the idea that AI should work just as well for every family. What I enjoy most about EPIC is that we don't stop at the research: we build a real device and test it with families, helping make sure that early diagnosis of infantile spasms reaches everyone who needs it.
