Sotos Tsaftaris

Sotos is EPIC's Project Co-Lead and is also Professor of Machine Learning and Computer Vision.

I am a Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh working in Healthcare AI. For over 20 years, I have created and applied artificial intelligence algorithms to extract meaningful patterns from complex healthcare, biological, and image data (for example, in medical imaging through my role with Canon Medical and the Royal Academy of Engineering or analysing complex systems for national research infrastructures). This makes my research deeply multidisciplinary, and I love to work in collaboration with a range of clinicians, industry partners, and scientific researchers.

I am now the Director for the Causality in Healthcare AI Hub (CHAI), leading the development of next generation safe and trustworthy AI frameworks for the healthcare space.

I am profoundly driven by how we can bring advanced technology directly into communities to relieve the stress families face during medical uncertainty. As a parent, I know how vital peace of mind and timely care are when it comes to protecting a child's future.
