Javier Escudero

I am a Reader in biomedical signal processing in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. For over 20 years, I have created and applied computer programmes to look for relevant patterns in physiological activity (for example, in brain activity recorded in electroencephalograms - EEGs, heart rate values from intensive care units, or levels of muscle activity from the forearm to control robotic prostheses). This makes my research multidisciplinary, and I love to work in collaboration with a range of health care professionals. I am now Principal Investigator in EPIC and directly supervise the workpackage developing new methods to analyse EEG signals.

I am particularly interested in how brain activity changes through the lifespan and I became even more interested in early childhood once I became a father of twin daughters.
