We are delighted to welcome four new members of staff to the RESPIRE team! Each will be based in Edinburgh, working alongside our partners across the four countries as part of the RESPIRE collaboration. Davies Adeloye Research Fellow Image New RESPIRE staff (L-R): Davies Adeloye, Tracy Jackson, Chun Lin Davies will be working on the Training and Capacity Development platform at RESPIRE, with Professor Igor Rudan and Professor Tabish Hazir, to update global burden of disease estimates on COPD and other chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs). He’ll also be conducting a gap analysis and research prioritisation exercise on CRDs in low and middle-income countries. Davies is a medical doctor and epidemiologist. He obtained his PhD in 2014 from the University of Edinburgh and has since returned to Nigeria, leading a small group in chronic disease epidemiology. Davies is currently Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Global Health Reports. Moni Choudhury Methodology and Data Science Platform Coordinator Moni is the Methodology and Data Science Platform Coordinator for RESPIRE. She will co-ordinate and lead in working with methodology colleagues and researchers across the RESPIRE collaboration (including Edinburgh, Bangladesh, India, Malaysia and Pakistan) to ensure that the methodology goals of the project are met. She will develop and lead the strategy and infrastructure required to underpin the future ambitions for the development of RESPIRE, working directly with the RESPIRE Methodology and Data Science Platform leads, Professor John Norrie and Professor Shams El Arifeen. Tracy Jackson Patient and Public Involvement Research Fellow Tracy will lead on Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) for the RESPIRE Unit to facilitate transition from limited knowledge of PPI and CEI in RESPIRE partner organisations, to producing high quality involvement strategies for research. This will involve actively engaging with colleagues in RESPIRE partner countries to begin implementing meaningful PPI into their research activities. Tracy will be providing innovative training and guidance on PPI/CEI, specifically in relation to the context of healthcare in each country. These activities will feed into the wider work of the Stakeholder Engagement and Governance platform. Tracy is also the PPI Research Fellow for the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research and completed her PhD at University of Edinburgh. Chun Lin Air Quality Programme Coordinator Chun Lin manages and coordinates a portfolio of air quality research projects, supporting the functioning of the RESPIRE research programmes. He works alongside Programme 2 leads, Professor Hilary Pinnock and Professor Ee Ming Khoo, and RESPIRE partners to ensure research projects achieve their intended outcomes. Dr Lin has a PhD in Environmental Sciences (2011) and over ten year’s extensive experience in air quality research, ranging from air sampler design, air quality model evaluation, to ambient and personal monitoring using low-cost sensors, and intervention for exposure reduction and health protection.
