About the award

Professor Su May Liew was a warmly valued RESPIRE colleague who passed away in December 2021. She was passionate about involving and supporting patients and members of the public to play an active role in research.

In honour of Professor Su May Liew’s legacy, the NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Respiratory Health (RESPIRE) run the annual Professor Su May Liew Award for Meaningful Community Engagement and Involvement in Healthcare Research.

These small grants facilitate meaningful collaboration between RESPIRE's partners, patients and/or communities affected by research outcomes, ensuring that they are at the heart of RESPIRE's projects.

The awarded funding must be linked to a RESPIRE project, be implemented up to 12 months (from the proposed starting date) and be able to demonstrate positive change.
