Platform II: RESPIRE Fellowships

Supporting future leaders in respiratory research

Building capacity in respiratory health research, our Fellowships support individuals with the potential and on a trajectory to become future leaders in research. They are intended to support people at various points of their development to become leading researchers (from pre-doctoral training to senior post-doctoral research).

These leadership opportunities promote capacity building at institutional and regional level, as well as South-South research networking and collaboration, facilitating the bi-directional transfer of knowledge and practice from one context to another.

During the first phase of RESPIRE, five early career researchers were awarded a RESPIRE Fellowship to deliver a specific project, supervised by senior members of the RESPIRE network.

This fellowship scheme enabled three RESPIRE researchers working in infectious disease research to participate in a three-month career development opportunity.

In 2024, The University of Edinburgh (UoE) funded a number of opportunities for RESPIRE members to develop their research careers in respiratory health – through networking, site visits, attending and delivering training.
