Background

There are widespread concerns amongst RESPIRE partners about the lack of awareness of the burden of chronic respiratory disease (CRD) within their communities, healthcare services and amongst policymakers.

In parallel with the 4CCORD PhotoVoice project, large scale community-based surveys will take place in India, Malaysia and Pakistan, using methods developed and piloted in the first phase of RESPIRE. Data will be collected on CRD prevalence, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as the impact that CRD has on participants’ work, recreation and the health status.

Aim and Impact

This study will be the first large scale population-based CRD survey in the countries involved.

Findings will be used to develop locally appropriate awareness campaigns for CRD, enable the estimation of normal Spirometry values for clinical practice and estimate the burned of CRD in India, Malaysia and Pakistan.
