This project is based at FKRF in Bangladesh, JWN in Bhutan & AAIP in Pakistan. Overview Project title: Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) – 3 country implementation feasibility study Programme: Non-Communicable Diseases Based at: Fasiuddin Khan Research Foundation in Bangladesh, Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Referral Hospital in Bhutan & The Allergy & Asthma Institute in Pakistan Start date: End date: Principal investigator: Project team: Hilary Pinnock, Nik Sherina Hanafi, Monsur Habib, Nazim Uzzaman, Farzana Khan, Rubina Aman, Mimi Lhamu Myna Background Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR) is a proven and effective strategy to improve shortness of breath, health status, and exercise tolerance for people with Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD). During first phase of RESPIRE, a systematic review and feasibility studies of PR were conducted in Bangladesh, India and Malaysia. This project draws on findings from previous RESPIRE studies, which found a need for home-based PR. For the current phase of RESPIRE, three mixed-method implementation studies will offer patients in Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan to participate in PR either at a health centre or from their home. Aim and Impact This project will adapt the original RESPIRE PR protocol, allowing the three settings to implement protocols for Centre/Home-PR. PR protocols and training materials will be made available to RESPIRE-2 partners, professional associations and more widely, and newly collected data will inform policy development and planning in Asian settings.
