Completed Projects: Chronic Respiratory Disorders

Research from the first phase of RESPIRE (2016-2021) related to chronic and non-communicable diseases.

This programme of work focussed on long-term conditions which develop and worsen over time, including diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) and lung cancer.

Led by: Ee Ming Khoo, University of Malaya, and Hilary Pinnock, University of Edinburgh.

RESPIRE projects in this area focussed on four main objectives:

  1. To identify and assess the burden of Chronic Respiratory Disease (CRD) in the four Partner countries.
  2. To develop and evaluate interventions to improve the management of COPD (and other CRD).
  3. To map the seasonal and geographic allergen load and impact of triggers for asthma.
  4. To develop tailored approaches to providing supported self-management for asthma.
