Good Financial Grant Practice workshop success

RESPIRE partners planning to apply for GFGP certification participated in an interactive and engaging RESPIRE-led workshop

In September 2023, RESPIRE held an interactive and engaging workshop to support its partners seeking certification for the Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP) Standard - the first and only international quality standard that focuses on controls to mitigate risks to grant funding.

“How to get GFGP certified – sharing best practice from certified RESPIRE partners”

Over two and a half days in Kuala Lumpur, the group participated in interactive sessions to explore the key concepts underpinning the Standard. These activities helped to illustrate the measured steps along the path to successful GFGP certification.

In 2019, RESPIRE held its first GFGP workshop, resulting in four partner organisations being awarded GFGP certifications:

  • KEM Hospital Research Centre (KEMHRC)
  • Universiti Malaya (UM)
  • Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF)
  • International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b)

Four participants from KEMHRC and UM who were actively involved in successfully gaining GFGP certification, were invited back to participate in the second workshop, this time in a reflective capacity. Their enthusiasm, warmth and willingness to share their experiences, paired with the workshop leads’ expertise provided a fun and informative learning environment for sharing best practice. This approach significantly enhanced the experience of those seeking certification, as they were able to hear first-hand accounts of implementing GFGP principles in practice.

The discussions were lively and informative, and I am confident that the (other) participants gained valuable insights from the training as I have. I am also grateful for the opportunity to have met participants from six different countries. It was fascinating to learn about the different grant management challenges and opportunities that exist in different parts of the world.

We wish all participants of the workshop the very best and continue to support our partners looking to apply for GFGP certification.
