The Usher Institute sits within the Edinburgh Medical School. It has four core research centres, hosts the Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit, and is a delivery hub within the Data-Driven Innovation Initiative of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal.

The Usher Institute sits within the Edinburgh Medical School in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. Working with partners across UK and international universities, NHS, policymakers, industry and the public is central to the highly collaborative ethos of the Usher Institute.

Interdisciplinary expertise in research and teaching

Four core research centres in Biomedicine, Self and Society, Global Health, Medical Informatics and Population Health Sciences are at the heart of the Usher Institute. The Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit sits within the Centre for Population Health Sciences.

Around 400 academic and professional services staff with expertise in a varied range of methodologies and topics contribute to world-leading research and teaching, in a truly interdisciplinary environment.

Our research expertise is at the heart of the excellent educational experience we offer in a wide range of taught and research postgraduate programmes, both online and on-campus, our programme of continuing professional development and in our contribution to the undergraduate medical degree.
