Why here?

The Usher Building is strategically located within Edinburgh BioQuarter, our developing health innovation district, to support collaboration and cutting-edge research. Its proximity to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh enables close partnerships between researchers and clinicians, driving advancements in public health, health data science and biomedicine.

The building provides a unified home for the Usher Institute, which had previously been spread across various locations, allowing for greater interaction and innovation among staff and students - and an opportunity to co-locate with partners.

The surrounding landscape offers a blend of natural beauty and historical depth. Overlooking Craigmillar Castle and with views of Arthur’s Seat, the area provides a striking backdrop that connects the present-day work carried out in the Usher Building with Edinburgh’s rich heritage.
