Groups within the Centre for Global Health work across key areas including global respiratory health, cancer, diabetes and vascular disease. Colorectal Cancer Epidemiology Led by Evi Theodoratou, the Colorectal Cancer Epidemiology Research Group seeks to improve colorectal cancer identification from population screening and diagnostic pathways for symptomatic populations and to apply instrumental variable methods to investigate the associations between biomarkers, exposures and disease. Cleft Lip and Palete The Cleft Lip and Palete Research Group is led by Felicity Vidya Mehendale. Epidemiology Led by Mark Woolhouse, the Epidemiology Research Group takes a quantitative approach to host-pathogen dynamics to inform disease control measures. They research the dynamics of infections of animals and humans at different scales, from the interaction of a parasite or virus with host cells, through to global estimates of disease burden. Edinburgh Evolutionary Epidemiology Group Led by Katie Atkins, the Edinburgh Evolutionary Epidemiology Group focuses on understanding the dynamics of infectious disease through modelling and phylogenetics. Quantitative Traits in Health and Disease Led by Jim Wilson, the Quantitative Traits in Health and Disease Research Group work spans the interface of population and disease genetics, with a focus on the genetic architecture of complex traits and the identification of genetic variants influencing quantitative risk factors for common diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Respiratory Viral Epidemiology Led by Harish Nair and Harry Campbell, the Respiratory Virus Epidemiology Research Group aims to increase knowledge about child pneumonia in general and the health effects of disease caused by respiratory viruses and use this to inform policy making on the control of respiratory infections. UNCOVER - Applied Evidence Synthesis Led by Ruth McQuillan and Evi Theodoratou, the UNCOVER team carry out rigorous evidence reviews to answer questions about real-world challenges. With roots in the Covid pandemic, they now aim to address a broad range of complex issues which have a public health dimension - from emerging diseases to the health effects of climate change. The Molecular Epidemiology Group is a collaborative cross-centre methodology group led from within the Centre for Global Health. This article was published on 2025-10-20
