The Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Research Group is led by Nazir Lone and Tim Walsh. Their research covers all areas of anaesthesia and analgesia, along with outcomes of cardiac surgery.

The Edinburgh Applied Qualitative Health Research Group (EQual) is led by Julia Lawton. Their research covers the use of qualitative methods to examine chronic and complex disease.

The Genetic Targets and Precision Medicine Research Group is led by Paul McKeigue and Athina Spiliopoulou. Their research covers prioritising genes as candidate drug targets and informing clinical decisions around diagnosis, prognosis and choice of treatment.

The Global Health Governance Research Group is led by Devi Sridhar. Their research covers how global institutions, finances and laws influence global public health.

The Non-communicable Disease Epidemiology Research Group is led by Sarah Wild and Caroline Jackson. Their research covers the use of quantitative methods to investigate the causes and consequences of non-infectious diseases such as heart disease and mental illness.

The Public Health Policy and Behavioural Research Group is led by Linda Bauld and Fiona Dobbie. Their research covers the primary prevention of non-communicable diseases through policy and behavioural interventions.

The Primary Care and Multimorbidity Research Group is led by Bruce Guthrie and Stewart Mercer. Their research covers the role of general practice in the care of people with multiple health conditions.

The Primary Palliative Care Research Group is led by Kirsty Boyd. Their research covers interdisciplinary quality of life care given to those with chronic, complex and terminal illnesses.

The Resuscitation Research Group is led by Gareth Clegg. Their research covers cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR): the life saving process following a heart attack.
