About us

Our vision, structure, heritage and leadership for the future.

To catalyse the transformation of health in society by working with people, populations and their data.

Professor Julie Jacko leads the Usher Institute as Interim Director

The Usher Institute sits within the Edinburgh Medical School. It has four core research centres, hosts the Edinburgh Clinical Trials Unit, and is a delivery hub within the Data-Driven Innovation Initiative of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal.

The Usher Institute seeks to foster an inclusive, fair, respectful culture and a welcoming environment in which all staff and students can flourish.

The Usher Institute was home to the first Chair of Public Health in the United Kingdom in 1898.

We are recognised as a WHO Collaborating Centre (WHOCC) on Population Health Research and Training.

The Usher Building at Edinburgh BioQuarter will host partnerships for data-driven health solutions.
