The European Public Health Association (EUPHA) Section for Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health (MEMH) and The Norwegian Centre for Minority Health Research (NAKMI) hosted the 6th European Conference on Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health 2016 in Oslo, Norway, on the 23-25 June 2016.

The conference was highly competitive with only one in three abstracts being accepted for oral presentation. Nonetheless, all eight of the abstracts submitted from the Usher Institute's Edinburgh Migration and Ethnicity Health Research Group were accepted for oral presentation.

The crowning glory, however, was that the presentation “Heterogeneity in ethnicity classifications” given by Dr Nazmy Villarroel Williams, research associate within the Usher Institute, won the first prize of €1000 for the best oral presentation. This project is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Co-principal investigators Prof Raj Bhopal and Dr Emma Davidson worked very hard alongside Dr Nazmy Villarroel Williams to achieve this success.

Dr Villarroel Williams is donating the award money to Medact which is an organisation for and of health professionals that support the wider health community to be more effective social change agents.
