FameLab is an exciting science communications competition which engages and entertains by challenging researchers to present their latest research in a three-minute presentation, armed with only their charm, wits and the occasional prop.

Dr Mhairi Aitken, a Research Fellow within the Usher Institute's Centre for Population Health Sciences (CPHS), spoke for three minutes about Data Linkage for Health Research. Her excellent presentation, judged on content, clarity and charisma, was selected from a pool of twenty-five competitors to be one of four regional winners.

Next stages

Mhairi and other winners from all Scottish heats will present again at the National Museum of Scotland on Saturday 7 January 2017, for the chance to get to compete at the National UK Final in London.

The overall UK winner will then go against more than 25 contestants who have each won their own national FameLab competitions, all together at The Times Cheltenham Science Festival in June 2017.

FameLab

Originally started in 2005 by the Cheltenham Science Festival, a partnership with the British Council has seen the competition grow to see over 5,000 scientists and engineers participate in over 40 different countries across every continent, with NASA holding the license in the USA. A secondary school variant, FameLab Academy, has been running in Gloucestershire since 2013.
