Open exhibition and talks

Every day from Tuesday to Friday the exhibition will be open to the public from 10-4pm and there will be 2 sessions each day at 9.30am and 1.30pm where each of our 4 core research team will give a short session including hands on craft activities for children broadly related to their topic of research.

The children attending these sessions will be selected through our Widening Participation initiative at the University.

Engaging the public

The main purpose of the exhibition itself is to engage and educate the public. We would like the children (and adults with them) to take away a better understanding of what Global Health means for the future. Waitrose Comely Bank have kindly agreed to sponsor the fruit and snacks for the children involved.

Public Lectures

Health in Haiti by Dr Felix Stein Tuesday 2nd April, 4pm

“Why do people in Haiti not have drinking water but people in the UK do? And how do you control a disease like the cholera in a country that runs mostly on fetching water with a bucket? I’ll speak about both of these questions and end on why it is important (and fun) to be a global health researcher.”

Universal Health Coverage by Dr Marlee Tichenor Wednesday 3rd April, 4pm

“How would you define universal health coverage? Do you think of health care as a human right? In this lecture, I will talk about what universal health coverage has come to mean in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Senegal, providing three different trajectories and ideologies of who is responsible for one’s health and the role of the state in a population’s health.”

In this lecture, I will talk about the key reasons for this improvement in maternal and child health in the world. I will use three country cases - United Kingdom, the United States and India, to discuss what works and what does not work in improving maternal and child health.
