Students are vital in shaping future health care and research. This year has been marked by numerous achievements from our student community. We've witnessed the triumphs of our PhD candidates, successful graduations, and noteworthy contributions to scholarly publications and presentations. Image We celebrated the accomplishments of all our graduating students this year. Last month's winter graduation was particularly special as it marked the Usher Institute’s inaugural pre-graduation reception. This event offered a unique opportunity for students, along with their friends and family members, to come together and create a vibrant atmosphere of celebration. Among the attendees were many of our online students, and this reception provided them with an opportunity to connect with each other and meet face-to-face – often for the first time. The pre-graduation reception also featured the presentation of prestigious awards. Claire Liden was honoured with the Brotherston Award for their academic achievements. The John Last Awards for 2023, announced in the summer, were jointly awarded to Kirsten Duggan and Abdulhamid Yaro Saidu for their excellent contribution to the public health academic community. Image It's not all studying and hard work for our students. Every year the University's student photography competition attracts the talents of international students and students who have had a study abroad or work away experience. In February 2023, we were proud to celebrate the winning entry from one of our own public health students, Alison Sears. The commitment and passion of our students play a pivotal role in shaping the future of health care and research.
