Thank you to all of our members and guests who contributed to a successful first Annual Scientific Meeting for RESPIRE! Image The RESPIRE team gathered outside the first Annual Scientific Meeting in Porto Over 50 delegates travelled to Porto in Portugal for the inaugural RESPIRE ASM on 29-30 May 2018. Sessions across the two days were delivered by a number of fantastic speakers. Many thanks for coming along to share your expertise. Working together The theme for the conference focused on achieving impact through engagement and collaboration. With the partnership covering multiple countries, this is a key issue for RESPIRE. The ASM provided a platform for members of the RESPIRE team to update on achievements and progress to date, share questions and challenges, and discuss future plans. Generating greater impact As well as facilitating collaborations internally, several sessions highlighted the importance of wider engagement to maximise the local, regional and global impact from the new knowledge and experience generated by RESPIRE. Sessions focused on stakeholder engagement, patient and public involvement (PPI), and the benefit of co-ordinated communications. We were also delighted to be joined by Senior Editor of the Lancet Respiratory Medicine, Laura Feetham, who presented on how to get a paper published in a top tier journal. During day two, we were joined by colleagues from the NIHR Global RECHARGE, FRESH AIR and NIHR Breathe Well groups, facilitating wider networking. Keynote from Zulfi Bhutta Our keynote address was delivered by the Chair of RESPIRE’s International Steering Committee, Zulfi Bhutta. Zulfi gave an impassioned presentation on the issues and challenges for childhood pneumonia for his keynote address. Pneumonia affects a large number of children across South Asia and is a key focus for a number of RESPIRE projects across Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
