Launch of the Global Primary Care Respiratory Collaborative

RESPIRE has launched a new global collaborative to tackle chronic respiratory disease in LMICs.

RESPIRE's "Collaborative" aims to build and sustain a community of practice focused on identifying gaps and opportunities in implementation research for chronic respiratory disease (CRD) interventions in primary care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Developed in close dialogue with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Collaborative will be implemented and coordinated by RESPIRE partner, IPCRG with aims to:

  • Convene global stakeholders including researchers, users, and funders working on primary CRD care.
  • Map and collate implementation research resources on CRD interventions in primary care in LMICs.
  • Conduct an evidence review and gap analysis to identify gaps and priorities in implementation research.
  • Recommend opportunities for translating evidence into primary care policy and practice.
  • Build and sustain a community of practice to enable knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The Collaborative is guided by a Steering Group of representatives from IPCRG, WHO, and RESPIRE, which provides strategic oversight, coordinates activities, and supports partnerships. Two Consultative Groups – one global and one for South-East Asia – will review evidence, identify gaps and priorities, and recommend strategies for translating research into practice. An open Collaborative Network will engage a wider community to share resources, highlight research needs, and promote the Collaborative’s outputs. IPCRG will work closely with the Steering Group and Collaborative members to explore opportunities for additional funding to expand the Collaborative in other regions.
