The Edinburgh and South East Scotland region is facing a number of health and social care challenges: an ageing population; increasing numbers of people living with long-term conditions; delays in hospital discharge; and ever increasing drug costs. Meeting these challenges requires new innovative solutions.

At DataLoch, we believe that putting data and innovation at the centre of responses to health and care system challenges is critical to improving health, care and services through research, innovation and planning.

We are doing this by: 

• bringing together health and social care data for the region 
• working with experts in health and social care to understand and improve this data 
• providing safe access to data for academics, clinicians and innovators to help them solve the challenges that really matter. 

We are engaging with private, public and third sector health and social care organisations to drive research and innovation through the use of data. This will result in improved outcomes for people, and reduce health inequalities, across the Edinburgh and South East Scotland region.

Data-Driven Innovation Funding: £4.26 million

Timescale: Over 5 year period 2019-2024

DataLoch harnessed for COVID-19

The project was in the first phase of development when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Researchers have since diverted their efforts to focus on Covid-19 data and supporting NHS service managers and clinicians with immediate hospital-based improvements.

Public Reference Group

DataLoch has engaged with volunteers who have formed a Public Reference Group. The group consists of members of local communities, all with different backgrounds and areas of interest.
