Funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, RESPIRE is a Global Health Research Unit focusing on respiratory health in Asia. Summary RESPIRE aims to reduce the number of deaths and wider health and societal impacts from respiratory diseases in Asia.Co-led by the University of Edinburgh and Universiti Malaya, RESPIRE partners based in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the UK collaborate to deliver low-cost, scalable policy and clinical interventions to reduce respiratory disease and death in Asia.RESPIRE’s projects are thematically grouped into three programmes of research – infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases and preventable risk factors – while its supporting platforms increase the ability of RESPIRE's partners to plan, undertake and implement the findings of research within their unique contexts:Platform I: Stakeholder Engagement & Community Engagement and InvolvementPlatform II: Capacity Building, Education & TrainingPlatform III: Open Science, Data & MethodologiesPlatform IV: Digital Health and InnovationRESPIRE's Knowledge Mobilisation Hub complements the activities of the programmes and platforms, and touches on wider topics such as Universal Health Coverage, gender inequalities and climate change.
