Dr Allison Worth retires

This month saw the retirement of Dr Allison Worth, lead of the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) team at the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research and Patient and Public Involvement Adviser for the University of Edinburgh, based at the Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility.

Leading the PPI Team

An advocate for public involvement, Allison has led the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) team since its launch, developing ways to help researchers involve people affected by asthma in the Centre’s research. This collaboration improves our research and ensures it is relevant to people in their day-to-day lives.

Under her leadership the Centre’s PPI team has achieved many successes. She works in the team alongside Anna De Simoni (PPI Co-Lead), Tracy Jackson (PPI Research Fellow) and four PPI Volunteer Leads.

It’s been a total pleasure working with Allison. I first met Allison well before the Asthma UK Centre for Applied Research began. She managed to twist my arm to get more and more involved! No real twisting was needed though, as it was extremely interesting and enjoyable supporting her through the early days. I wish her all the very best for her retirement.

Allergy and Respiratory Research Group

Allison was Research Manager for the Allergy and Respiratory Research Group at the Usher Institute before leaving to run the Patient Advisory Group for the University of Edinburgh at the Edinburgh Clinical Research Facility.  Here she delivered training for many researchers across the University of Edinburgh and beyond and supported researchers and public alike to bring about meaningful patient/public involvement in research.
