The NIHR Global Health Research Unit Tackling Infections to Benefit Africa at the University of Edinburgh (TIBA) recently held a workshop for funders and stakeholders in African health and health systems research. Image Principal presents prize at TIBA workshop Sustainable Partnerships The theme for the workshop was the ‘Role of Sustainable Partnerships for Research Leading to Improved Health Systems and Universal Health Coverage in Africa’. The objective of the workshop was to discuss the future of partnerships for improving health research and its impact in Africa, building on a conversation on knowledge partnerships that began at the Grand Challenges meeting held in London in 2016. Vice Principal International Professor James Smith spoke on the University of Edinburgh’s commitment to enhancing collaborative research with African institutions. The Principal of the University of Edinburgh, Professor Peter Mathieson, delivered the vote of thanks and presented prizes to the winners of the postgraduate and postdoctoral poster session. The meeting brought together over 100 people from nine African countries to take stock of our research and its impact, as well as to plan for the years ahead.
